Next Year's Budget May Include Money For Playground Repairs

Fairhope, Alabama

FY 2013 BUDGET COMMITTEE APPOINTED

At Monday's council meeting, Council President Mixon appointed next year's budget committee (FY 2013, beginning Oct 1st of this year),  to consist of the Mayor, all council members, Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Zunk, Stan Grubin and Gail Gardiner  (Mixon to be Chairman).

Mixon asked the Mayor to have city staff look specifically at the Community Park playground on Church St. so that funds for much-needed repairs/improvements might be included in next year's budget.

Mixon: "I think everyone is aware that something needs to be done about the park ... now would be the time to do that ... while we're in the budget process ... ."

KINGREA QUESTIONS PARK'S SAFETY

Councilman Kingrea said that efforts to mediate a dispute between two citizens' groups interested in improving the park had fallen through; and suggested to the Mayor a safety expert may need to be hired to evaluate the structure as an alternative first step.

Kingrea: "... it's kind of a dead issue ... except for one thing ... I really think we should have a certified safety inspector look at that park ... to my uneducated eye ... it does not look safe ... need to do something to make sure the safety of the kids is not compromised."

Oh good grief...waste more money to hire a "safety expert?" Maybe the street striping "expert" could return and do a buy one, get one free "analysis." Take a couple of kids out there...they'll tell you all you need to know for 5 bucks and some ice cream at Gene's Beans.

lets hire some more experts and waste more money as it seems to grow on trees, everytime there is an issue they go and hire an expert.

Just tear it down and look to equip like they use at schools. NO WOOD that rots, etc. Maybe it won't look unique like F'hope, but at least it would be safe. No experts needed, just some good search and research.

Nice to see that the Real Housewives of Fairhope (aka the Hatfields and the McCoys) can't come to a mutual agreement.

Rick Kingrea sounds like Obama.....spend taxpayers money on stupid things. The Fairhope building inspector has already deemed the park unsafe......what more do you need??? A safety expert is going to tell you the same thing. Foolish waste of money.
Why haven't we heard from the 2 people who were against rebuilding the park? Did they get their way and just back out all together?

When Play by the Bay had the greatest plan by all means, along came the dissenters. It makes me so sick to see $$ being spent for studies - you all know the dangerous conditions at the park - and it was being taken care of with private fundraising! That's the way to go. We taxpayers don't need any additional studies - we need action!!!!! When you had a good thing and a hard working group you couldn't be satisfied. Now good luck with the park - whoever is going to do what with it. Just don't spend our hard earned $$ for studies - election time is coming and we want to see some accountability and restraint in study spending - the most wasteful use of our tax dollars.

There was a group who did incredible work for this project and then got "shot down" so to speak!

Now, aren't y'all sorry?
