According to Mayor Kant, since the job was posted on Oct. 17th, numerous applications have been received from "all over the country" to become Fairhope's new Police Chief. Interim Chief Joe Petties has also applied for the position Kant said. Kant said he expected the pace of applications to pick up after the new council is seated on Nov. 5th.

The job description posted includes a minimum of a 4 year university degree in Law Enforcement, Political Science, or Public Administration: but 5 years of relevant police supervisory experience could be substituted for each year of the degree requirement.

Kant said he is satisfied so far with the interim Chief's performance and is in no hurry to fill the position permanently. The city council is the appointing authority for Police Chief (as well as City Clerk, Attorney and Treasurer).

Some new council members have indicated they also may want to replace current city attorney Tut Wynne or hire an independent prosecutor.

Five years of increasingly responsible experience in law enforcement, with a minimum of one year in a supervisory position, preferably in a municipality. OR
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work.

Look for the Mayor to bring in the old DA that was involved in the witch hunt against Chief Press. It is payback time. Tut Wynn is a good man. Keep your eyes on who is hired in the Police Department. Those that were involved in sex. lies and photos will return. Other than that things are great in Fairhope.

If they allow Steve Griffis back you will know that Kant is behind all of it. Everything that they have built up over the past few years will be torn down in 2 - 3 months, mark my word.

Any competent law enforcement professional need not apply...especially if you're not born, raised and bred in Baldwin County.
