Fairhope, Alabama
According to Mayor Kant, since the job was posted on Oct. 17th, numerous applications have been received from "all over the country" to become Fairhope's new Police Chief. Interim Chief Joe Petties has also applied for the position Kant said. Kant said he expected the pace of applications to pick up after the new council is seated on Nov. 5th.
The job description posted includes a minimum of a 4 year university degree in Law Enforcement, Political Science, or Public Administration: but 5 years of relevant police supervisory experience could be substituted for each year of the degree requirement.
The salary listed is $80,000/yr.
Kant said he is satisfied so far with the interim Chief's performance and is in no hurry to fill the position permanently. The city council is the appointing authority for Police Chief (as well as City Clerk, Attorney and Treasurer).
Some new council members have indicated they also may want to replace current city attorney Tut Wynne or hire an independent prosecutor.
