Public Works Seeks More Space

Fairhope, Alabama

OLD PET SMART BUILDING

The city is looking into the possibility of purchasing a vacant 45, 000 square foot commercial building on  Pecan Ave. for expansion of the public works department. The public works department needs the space to park vehicles and equipment (ie. garbage/trash trucks) out of the weather and for recycling activities. More office space may be needed as the city expands as well.

There is currently limited room for expansion at the city's public works complex on S. Section St.

The asking price for the 6 acre property is about $525,000, down from $800K a few years ago. Mayor Kant told the city council there is enough surplus money in the utility funds to purchase the property outright.  Councilman Ford, a realtor by trade, was asked to inspect the building and report findings back to the council.

[Prior to construction of the library in 2007, the city used the old nut processing plant at the corner of Fairhope and Bancroft  for the purpose.]

Who owns the property that the City is contemplating purchasing? That is an important question. If it is owned by a corp or an LLC, go to the State of Alabama Secretary of State's page and find out who owns the company.

They certainly need more space there and to get the expensive equipment out of the weather. some of their offices are cramped and dark too.

Tried to look up the property owner via Baldwin County mapping system, but haven't been able to use it for several months. Glitch? I don't think so, they just don't want us to know who owns what.
