'Eyesore' East Fairhope House Burns

BISHOP ROAD AT FAIRHOPE AVENUE

The front rooms of a small house located at 8477 Fairhope Avenue burned late this afternoon; the cause of the fire has not been officially announced, but is likely "due to the cold weather" according to an informed source.

It is not yet known if there were any injuries.

The Times had received numerous complaints from the neighborhood over the years concerning the unsightly home located adjacent the county's satellite courthouse (owned by a former city councilman); but since it is outside of the city limits, not much could be done about it.

The house appears to be constructed of local 'clay city' tile.

Dogs lives were lost, who owns this property? It did not EVER look habitable to me. That person or persons is culpable if proven no one should have been living there! Did I mention 2 dogs lived there and possibly both died... certainly one�� Someone needs to be held accountable‼️

Needs to stand as monument to owner's decades of public self service...owner (as one example of self service) sold property to west of house to county commission without appraisal until after sale for $400,000. County expanded parking lot, 21 parking spaces, $400K taxpayer dollars. Wonder what county or state will eventually pay for lot since house burned? Sorry about dogs, thankful no human hurt or injured, seems animals more important than humans? Blog monitor probably won't allow this post...

What stuff? Old house, eyesore, owner's son and friends lived there. People live in worse, of course, not in Fairhope,(not that u can publicly see, anyway) should not be allowed at all, here, right? City has no poor ( yeah right) and poor or eyesores will not be tolerated in utopia.
Last I checked, we were still a free country, sort of. U want gov to regulate everything from what, where, when, how and why, will gladly donate one way ticket to complete supression of freedom country of your choice. Better yet, my choice for u...

Did the owners son ck the chimney?? Do you think this rental or property was up to code?? Every life matters..... dogs and humans. The men are fine... not so for the dogs, I drove by this property and the son and his friends had DOGS TIED TO A CLOTHESLINE. They didn't have a choice, they rely on the human for the right thing., well that right thing didn't end well for the dogs! Who does this in today's world.... aren't we better than that?

Dogs have more compassion and rights than people anymore. Pretty soon, they will be among the healthcare entitled! Supreme court will rule u can marry a dog or any animal. Rediculous? Not really. They are animals! Lick private parts, lick your face...poop, wipe rear on rugs inside! Shed, jump on people, bark at all hours, get loose and destroy people's gardens and private property! Bite childern. Turn on "pet parents" ( who came up with that term? Parents of animals are also animals!) Some of us care not for dogs, care not to attend public events with sniffing, pooping peeing dogs, visit friends with dogs because of allergies and dogs behaving so badly, that if a human child, no one would hear end of bad behavior gossip! At least they were tied up. Aren't u better than putting animals before humans? This entire post focused on darned dogs. Only one poster seems concerned no human life harmed or worse.

Well it is obvious that most posts here are from those who haven't lived here very long......the house is actually in the COUNTY and NOT CITY LIMITS yet falls under the Planning and zoning,as well as building inspection dept of the city.It is owned by a former city council member who ,yes did sell the adjacent property to the county for 400k at 200% greater than the approximate 150-200k appraisal(ole boy deal).The occupants of the residence were at home at the time of the fire as a couch was too close to the fire place.In order for the occupant to get out as the fire built too rapidly they were unable to get to the two dogs in enough time.The opinions of many of these post denote the uninformed judgements of those through out town.Yes there are many issues with blight in Fairhope,most sit on the city council and mayors office.All said it is amazing how many stores and restraints in town violate the so called FIRE district as the fire inspector has yet to enforce many codes.Many dinners downtown have little or no egress to evacuate if necessary.Some evn have egg crate stapled to the ceiling and painted black to look good,doors are blocked and locked in the front,blocked back doors.Yet the city os SO progressive in it's explosive growth.As the city adopted a city tax in violation of the Single Tax Charter of 1897.It is SO obvious.a good lawyer knows the law,a better one knows the judge,for there is NO RULE OF LAW in Baldwin co,as is evident of the Fairhope PD,Co sheriff and DA's office Withering away till retirement.Well maybe it's time we all say NO MOORE/TIMES UP.Put up or shut up.Yet if you see and say you become the assailant.
