Tribute To Former Mayor Nix

Fairhope, Alabama

Gary Scovill

CALLED 'THE SQUIRE OF FAIRHOPE'

A tribute to former seven-term (1972 - 2000) mayor James Nix screened at the Fairhope Baptist Church Sunday.

Producer Gary Scovil of  'Scovil Productions' said he chose "squire" for a title because they "serve" -- in this case a public servant.

Nix's instigation of "beautification" initiatives at bayfront parks and in the dying downtown were credited with a resurrection that led to prosperity and growth continuing to this day.

Nix gave credit to his employees and said the key to his political success was compromise.

If only people knew the truth about this public self servant. More people who move here, the more truth is diluted and easily rewritten, especially when those of us who know how many and where bodies are buried are getting older and fewer of us left to try to tell with documentation. We're outnumbered and marginalized, no one wants to acknowledge or accept his real legacy. Tribute to Nix in a church setting pure blasphemy..

Why are people so mean to one another here?

"Why are people so mean to one another here?"

Because if you grew up here in the last 50-60+ years, you'd understand the corruption that has gone on. Granted, Mayor Jim Nix did do a lot for this city, but all small town cities have some sort of corruption. He trained his puppet Tim well.
