Update: Summer Municipal Beach Fees Back On Agenda

Update: The council enacted the fees proposed here, to take effect Memorial Day.

TUESDAY'S  WORK SESSION MEETING

36532 zip code
After voting to raise entrance fees from $8 to $20/vehicle for everyone living outside of the city limits at a meeting last month ($3 - $5 for pedestrians and bikes), the city council will consider more changes to allow everyone living in the 36532 zip code who is also a Fairhope Utilities customer entrance at no charge as well.  The usual window stickers will still be required.

The resolution is currently not on the regular council meeting's agenda, but could be put there for a vote.

(The usual Monday meeting was changed to Tuesday, 6PM.)

Sometimes fees are charged before on weekends/holidays (like today) but routine charging usually begins on Memorial Day and lasts through Labor Day.

I am going to appear very selfish here but I disagree with the entire zip code using the park for free. The Fairhope Single Tax, to whom I pay an ever increasing premium annually, is the entity that provides so much to the City. I believe that it is only fair that those of us who fund the FST district reap some reward such as a decent beach space that is not cluttered with garbage 24/7. I know that not everyone within the city limits is FST, but I do believe that all of us within this narrowly defined city limits zone cares very much about our community and the garbage that others leave behind.

Our Council members must be worried about votes........as per usual.

Suggestion to the city: place an attendant that is in uniform, with proper attire and grooming, and a name tag to represent the city well as the previous attendant did not represent these values!!! This will set the tone.
I applaud the decision of having outsiders pay for the beach that the tax payers of 36532 are maintaining.

Well since there is NO ADA COMPLIANCE to this park owned by the Single Tax Corp,leased by the city sets forth a BUSINESS FOR PROFIT ENTITY.The ADA was established in 1997.It's 2018.There is not the required parking,restroom facilities and this is NOT the only area in the Municipality of Fairhope.Even their own building have been noted in previous counsel meetings,the building dept,parks and recreation,as well as planning and zoning.Nothing has been corrected.Yet it sure seems that all of the so called Americans love and support our troops,but not enough to provide any assistance when they come home or to anyone who is disabled.

the deed that transfers the parks to the city from fst specifies that they are for the use of the entire community, the system of one utility plus residence in 36532 covers that well. as well as actual MEMBERS of fst (Vs lessees in general) should cover it. we knew there would be non lessee's living on the outskirts who would benefit from the improvements made to what has become fairhope and we accepted it without excluding them.

Asking non residents and non-property tax payers to pay a day use fee to use the park does not exclude anyone. A day use fee for non residents and folks that don;t pay Fairhope taxes fairly allocates and spreads the actual cost of maintaining and cleaning the park to those folks that actually use it. BTW - there are many beach communities in America that have moved to making their town's beaches and parks restricted to town residents (local taxpayers) only which excludes non-residents. I think at some point in the future as we get overwhelmed with non residents using and abusing our parks, beaches, and pier Fairhope will have to consider a resident only use also.

As a citizen, I get sick and tired of all of the triathlon races and races in general that take over the bay and do not let tax payers enjoy what they are paying for. It is always on the prettiest weekends and visitors act as though you are in the way. Also the exercise classes need to pay for taking over the park in the mornings. These women are rude and think they own the place . You should not be able to take over the sidewalks doing lunges and kicks.

I am a 100% disabled war veteran. I have mobility issues. I cannot walk to the beach in Gulf Shores. I live in Spanish Fort. How can I afford $20 every time I go? Who are you really trying to keep out?
