Water Tower Painting Progressing Faster

Fairhope, Alabama

Painting of the city's 2 million gallon water tank on Fairhope Avenue is progressing faster now, according to Operations Director Richard Peterson.

Stringent Department of Homeland Security requirements at sites involving public water supplies had caused a shortage of qualified workers, but more were found recently.

The tank must be sandblasted inside and out before new paint applied.

If the top of the tank can be completed first, cell phone antennas may be re-installed early to restore service on the east side of town, he said.

The private contractor hired to do the job for just under $1 million has until July for completion.

I have to go outside and stand in my driveway to use my phone. I can't believe it's finally getting done, oh wait I don't want to speak too soon!

Ha ha......the project just failed and they are starting over again!Evidently the people are not considering the full impact on citizens who generally rely on Cell Phones for coverage and communication probably more than an single tool in modern history. In addition to the inability to communicate, the weak signals consume battery usage during the many times their phones seek a signal unsuccessfully. There are also safety and security costs to the citizens since “cell phones” are also a public safety device as well. When citizens are distracted while driving by re dialing dropped calls, or trying to find signals, it can contribute to accidents. When people cannot call for help from public services it can also cause unsafe situations that I am afraid this decision can cause at least some unfavorable publicity for our city.
