New Restaurant Opening In Historic Fairhope House

Fairhope, Alabama

51 S. CHURCH STREET

A deck for outdoor seating was one addition made by the new 'Ferus by the Bay' restaurant/bar locating in the former Church Street Inn property on the corner of De La Mare and Church Street in downtown Fairhope.

Owner Cody Lake opened the Ferus Artisan Ales brewery in Trussville in 2018 and expanded to Birmingham the next year according to web reports. He was quoted at the time: "We at Ferus Artisan Ales believe in creating amazing beers, adventure, and providing an unparalleled taproom & eatery experience."

"Ferus" is a Latin word for wild, untamed, etc., a characteristic of beers brewed there he said.

While the menu for the Fairhope store has not been made public yet, a description of those at the other locations mentions, "serving up everything from hoppy IPAs and creative sours to delicious sandwiches and apps."

Grand opening should be in about three weeks, according to workers at the site Sunday.

The historic Irwin/Sandoz/Jones house was constructed in 1921.

Hope they didn't kill any Fabergé egg trees!

Two hour parking limit is the solution to all city parking problems downtown but current leaders do not have backbone to get it done.

Two hour parking. Two hours to shop and enjoy dinner and drinks. Two hour shifts for all employees. Two hours to attend performances, parades, and festivals.
No: it's not a backbone issue. Try again. More parking is needed, not rationing our way to killing our small businesses owners and vibrant downtown.

Timed parking is the logical solution used in most every other town. Employees and anyone wanting to stay longer would simply use the now-underused parking garage or the time-honored method of ... simply moving your vehicle periodically!

The parking garage in never close to being full. Supposedly they are working to make it better accessible and easier for people to park, especially for larger vehicles. Let's see where that goes.

It is accessible. One must simply walk a half block.

OMG people please stop complaining about the parking. Let's add another layer of government with parking meter police, parking meter repair techs, parking ticket dispute court,.....There are a million places to park in downtown Fairhope. So you have to walk a block or two. OMG!
