PLANTATION POINTE SHOPPING CENTER

The demolition of what was for many year's a Ruby Tuesday restaurant at 901 Fairhope Avenue has started; details of plans for a Chick-fil-A restaurant will still have to be approved by the city's planning commission (traffic plan, landscaping, etc.).

The Ruby Tuesday's closed about 5 years ago. Sebastian's Steakhouse operated there for a while too, beginning in 2023.

A new site drainage plan has already been ok'd by the state (ADEM).

Proposed Chick-fil-a plan.

Fairhope Ave ought to be 3 lanes all the way to Walmart.

You really mean it needs to be 5 lanes.

This seems to be a no-brainer for the planning commission and council. The most congested intersection in Fairhope now and you’re gonna put a Chik-Fil-A in there? Impacts to the PIG, UPS store would be major.
The current set up would depend on motorists letting Chik customers on to FH Ave or Greeno. Motorist want to rush to catch the timed traffic lights.
How many folks do you see letting people get in traffic lanes now? Back ups galore.
Let’s hope basic common sense prevails on this one.

You got one thing right anyway. A no-brainer ... to approve it! One more business won't make any difference considering the dozens there already ...

They built that restaurant in the 1990s, the first “small” concept in RT’s portfolio, so successful that it was later expanded. And the founder once resided in Point Clear. It even had on-site parking. How can the preservation people allow this to happen?

there are no "preservation people" here. nobody cares.

I don't think anyone cares about preserving old restaurants that have gone out of business. The building certainly has no architectural significance. I disagree with putting a Chick-Fil-A on that corner due to the traffic nightmare but that's a different matter.

Under a roof leak, a one-gallon bucket is filled to the rim with rainwater. Considering the dozens of ounces of water already in the bucket, one more ounce won't matter. Yes, now I see the genius of that logic. Indeed, a bad situation simply cannot get worse.

wow some crazy stuff here.

Say something, or say nothing. Please.

The “water bucket” analogy is pretty poor. Talking apples and oranges. Sure, the property is zoned commercial and okay to replace with commercial. But let’s do the math; Cafe 98 might have 150 customers spread across four hours? Looking at the three lines wrapped around Chik-Fil-A all day, I would estimate 700 - 1,000 cars per day. Remember, the high school is right down the street! We’re going to add that many cars to an intersection already in gridlock. How will that even work?
Even buckets full of water overflow and cause more damage. Dumb proposal.

I find it comical when someone thinks so HIGHLY of themself that they may be SLIGHTLY inconvenienced on their way to Wal-Mart if a Chi-Fil-A is built. So, this person who may be delayed 5 or so minutes once a week would prefer not to have a nice amenity like Chik-Fil-A in Fairhope. Let that soak in and maybe check your ego and plan your trip to Wal-Mart accordingly.

I would be more worried about what is going in the old Big Lots. Big building.

Hoping we have so many “amenities” like fast-food Chik that even those customers can’t get in or out of there. Maybe they’ll start cooking their own chicken sandwich.

Um, the water bucket analogy is plainly sarcastic. You are in accord with that writer, and common sense. Plantation Pointe--already congested at the N/E quadrant--will be a nightmare with this addition, guaranteed. This represents an abdication of urban planning responsibility.

Project YOUR ego onto others much?

It's going to be a coffee/bank/salon/dollar store/pizzeria. Finally, a choice!
