Fate still unknown.

DECISION STILL "PENDING"

The fate of the Winn Dixie in the Baldwin Square Shopping Center on Greeno Road still has not been determined; a decision is still "pending" according to the owner's latest press release.

Most of their other stores in the South Alabama area are becoming 'Corner Market' stores, including one in Foley.

Southeastern Grocers, Inc. acquired Winn-Dixie earlier this year; they now plan to consolidate in the Florida market.

There are currently eight grocery stores in Fairhope, including Walmart's.

why don't Greers move in there before the old building downtown falls down on them?

Trader Joe's please!

Greers is perfect exactly where it is. If they moved, how could we walk to pick up groceries? I'm sure that someone will take over that spot but please not Greers!

We don't have the population and average income to support a Trader Joe's. I'll be shocked if they ever come here......would love Fresh Market, but that space is too large.

Fairhope could support Trader Joes easily. Greers in that spot would never work. Publix is King!

the pig is doing well on greeno. so would greers.

I agree that Fairhope is too poor to support a Trader Joe's.

Poor? Who is buying these million dollar homes? How many Mercedes and Beamer’s are driving around?

Wannabes.

Regarding the population and income questioning....We didn't use to have the population and income to support 6 grocery stores either but here we are. We had only Bruno's, WD, FW, and Greer's for the longest time. But word about Fairhope spread about 25 years ago and you see what has happened .

Publix is higher priced than Trader Joe’s. They've been ripping off Fairhope shoppers for years! How about HEB from Texas? They would scare the pants off Publix.

Publix is always so clean and well laid out that, even if their prices are higher, I prefer it to 'bargain' stores. Fresh Market is the only place here that compares for quality but I refuse to drive to the interstate to get there. Publix also has the very nicest employees ever!

If Greer’s moved into the Winn Dixie building, it would be totally trashed within 12 months. Don’t believe it? Look at the Robertsdale location. Look at the Bay Minette location. They cannot teach their help how to clean. They’ll do fine staying downtown.

Great selection, high quality, and excellent service come at a cost to the store, and thus the shopper. I work hard; my time is valuable; and, I choose to pay it. Publix also has great BOGO sales. Saving money at the dingy Winn-Dixie was fine, as long as one didn't mind waiting 15 minutes in line at the one open register operated by an indifferent employee. No one is required to shop at Publix; if one feels ripped off and shops there anyway, who is to blame when we have Piggly Wiggly, Greer's, Walmart, Aldi, Rouse's, Fresh Market, and 40 dollar stores?
