Speed Limit Lowered On S. Section Street

LSV's  NOW PERMITTED TOO

The Baldwin County Commission has lowered speed limits outside city limits (south to Wood Acres Lane) on fast-growing CR 3 (S. Section St.)  from 45 to 35 mph. 

County highway engineer Frank Lundy said the change was made for more  consistency: prevoius speeds were 25, 35, and 45 mph on stretches along the road.

Also with the change, properly equipped low speed vehicles (aka  golf carts)  will now be able to use the road. 

The speed limit on Section St. inside the city limit is 25 mph.

The new 300-lot Pt. Clear Golf Club is being developed in that area too.

Perfect. It won't be long before we won't even need cars to live here. I love that one can now drive from downtown to the entire Lakewood area in a cart!

No need if you kowtow to money. These same reckless fools drive golf carts (not LSV) in 55 zones. Eventually one of these families will be annihilated and the driver of the automobile will be charged with manslaughter.

I drove a cart around town for years and the road rage was evident. If you keep expanding the 35 mph radius, it doesn’t make it safer. It’s more likely to increase the road rage expeditiously. Those neighborhoods already had a suitable route to downtown for carts via scenic-98.

Anonymous is completely correct that golf carts cause road rage. That’s because the people driving them are RUDE. They don’t care if they back up traffic for miles and make drivers of real vehicles nervous because the kids and the dogs in the carts are holding on for dear life while mom and dad are busy looking cute and waving to their friends. Golf cart drivers think that they are super cool fun people and really don’t care that the people paying for the upkeep of the roads w the gasoline tax are inconvenienced. I don’t really care if they drive their carts in their subdivisions or, more unlikely, on an actual golf course, but they are obstructions to normal city traffic. They don’t improve the parking situation downtown because they take up the same parking place that an SUV would use. And I don’t see the fun of driving around sweating in an open-air lightweight vehicle in our usual 90 % humidity and sudden pop-up thunderstorms. I just don’t get the whole annoying obsession with golf carts. If you want to meander around town slowly and sweating, why don’t you also get some exercise and just walk?? But please, don’t jump into the crosswalks and make a car driver slam on brakes because you can’t wait patiently on the sidewalk until they pass.

Legally require more lights and all of them turned on all the time in the carts. Can't see them under tree shadows and such.
